SLC Property supports Hendre Lakes and Cardiff Parkway as pre-application consultations gets underway

The latest designs for Hendre Lakes, a proposed new business district to the south of St Mellons Business Park which will be served by Cardiff Parkway railway station, have been unveiled as part of a five-week consultation period which gets underway today.

The 90,000sqm Cardiff Hendre Lakes development, which includes Cardiff Parkway railway station, aims to bring connectivity, jobs and investment to South Wales. The development will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of east Cardiff and the growth ambitions of the Cardiff Capital Region. The development has the potential to support up to 6,000 jobs, as well as becoming a transport hub, helping people access other employment opportunities across South Wales and beyond.

SLC Rail and SLC Property have been working with the project team to provide design and planning support.

Nigel Roberts, Chairman of Cardiff Parkway Developments, said: “Our proposals are for a sustainable, well-connected and safe development. This unique development will bring investment to the region, create new employment opportunities, and connect people to a historic landscape. The project is a step closer to reality as we hit this next milestone of the pre-application consultation.

“Despite the challenges of the last few months, behind the scenes we have been working hard to continue developing our proposals. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the consultant team for all their hard work and enthusiasm, particularly during the last few months. I am excited to now be able to share the next iteration of the proposals with stakeholders and the local community before we submit our planning applications a little bit later this year.”

Ian Walters, Acting Managing Director of SLC Property said: “SLC has a track record for delivering new rail services and stations and making third party schemes possible, so we’re excited to be working on this project which aims to create a new flagship station for South Wales.”

The five-week consultation period is running from Wednesday 05 August to Wednesday 09 September 2020, during which the local community are being asked to provide feedback on the proposals.
